 140 characters or less…

@LaylaMessner: Writer of books about love that outlasts everything. M.A. in writing from Goddard College. Hang my hats in Canmore, Alberta.

 Bio, extended version…

I was Born in Kathmandu, Nepal while my father, Reinhold Messner, was on expedition there. My mom, Nena Holguin, raised me in the Canadian Rockies. She worked as a backcountry ranger in Mt. Assiniboine Provincial Park, and there I spent the winters before I started school, enjoying the aurora borealis, the scent of snow-laden spruce, and the sound of silence.

I attended school in Canmore, Alberta, where I excelled at English, Drama, Math, and Science. Gym and music? Not so much. My post-secondary education began in the Film department at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario and finished with an Individualized M.A. in “Women, Writing, and Somatics” from Goddard College in Plainfield, VT.

In 2009, goaded by a particularly disturbing dream, I dropped out of a PhD in Depth Psychology to move back to my hometown and write.
